Polynomials Positive on Unbounded Rectangles
Given a K ⊆ R determined by a finite set of {g1 ≥ 0, . . . , gk ≥ 0}, we want to characterize a polynomial f which is positive (or non-negative) on K in terms of sums of squares and the polynomials gi used to describe K. Such a representation of f is an immediate witness to the positivity condition. Theorems about the existence of such representations also have various applications, notably in ...
متن کاملQuadrature rules on unbounded interval
After some remarks on the convergence order of the classical gaussian formula for the numerical evaluation of integrals on unbounded interval, the authors develop a new quadrature rule for the approximation of such integrals of interest in the practical applications. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is considered and some numerical examples are given.
متن کاملZeros of Interval Polynomials
Polynomial equations with perturbed coefficients arise in several areas of engineering sciences, for instance, in automatic control theory, dynamical systems, optimization and in control theory. For such equations, it is necessary to study their roots and to establish a priori estimates to define regions containing such roots. Attending to the fact that these equations can be seen as algebraic ...
متن کاملOn a Uniformly Integrable Family of Polynomials Defined on the Unit Interval
In this short note, we establish the uniform integrability and pointwise convergence of an (unbounded) family of polynomials on the unit interval that arises in work on statistical density estimation using Bernstein polynomials. These results are proved by first establishing/generalizing some combinatorial and probability inequalities that rely on a new family of completely monotonic functions.
متن کاملNonexpansive Mappings Defined on Unbounded Domains
In the study of nonexpansive mappings and fixed point theory the domain of the mapping is usually assumed to be bounded or, as in certain approximation results (see, e.g., [20]), fixed points are assumed to exist. However in [21] Penot used uniform asymptotic concepts which he had earlier introduced in [22] to extend the Browder-Göhde-Kirk theorem to unbounded sets. The term “asymptotic” is use...
